Hanover & Pendlebury Towers

It's been a while since I last updated, but I've finally gone through and picked out the best bunch of pictures that I've taken in and around Stockport over the past 7 to 8 months and shall continue to update this on a daily basis again.

This is a shot of the 'Lancashire Hill Towers', otherwise known as Pendlebury & Hanover, up on Lancashire Hill to the west of Stockport. Taken this January in the cold and harsh winter whilst standing on a small bridge at Great Portwood Street over the River Mersey.

Electricity Pylon

One of the many live wire electricity pylons running throughout Offerton.

I wonder if these are dangerous to be standing under?

Great Portwood Street

A view down great Portwood Street, just after the Portwood round-a-bout, heading into Stockport town center, with the retail park to the left, and a few chain shops to the right across the other side of the road that have cropped up more and more over the past 5 to 10 years.

Telephone post

Ever wondered what a telephone post and telephone wires in streets look like in a moderate sized British town?

Yeah, well now you know. :)

Amici's

This is from the other night when I went for a really nice evening dinner at this fabulous Italian/mediterranean restaurant on the A6 in the north of Hazel Grove.

Remind me to never order Mussels again, though.

Hazel Grove War Memorial

The center piece of the Hazel Grove war memorial gardens, located on the A6 along the main shopping street in the southern end of Hazel grove.

The front plate reads,

ERECTED TO THE
ENDURING MEMORY
OF THE MEN OF
HAZEL GROVE
WHO DIED FOR
THEIR COUNTRY IN
THE GREAT WARS.

1914 - 1918

1939 - 1945

Etherow Country Park

A collection of ducks and geese enjoying the lake at Etherow Country Park on a sunny afternoon.

The park situated at Compstall in the south of Stockport was one of the first country parks in the UK to open, and has been home to a wide variety of different birds, natural habitats and wildlife as well as a being a prime spot for anglers and for sailors at the local sailing club.

Stockport Viaduct

Unfortunately not the clearest of photos, but still shows off the monumental scale of the structure with the view underneath of the Stockport Viaduct, passing through on the M60.

Initially designed by George W. Buck and Built in 1840, it was constructed to create better transport links into Stockport by providing a railway line to the north into Manchester, it is now a significant part of the west coast mainline.

I will at some point head over to Stockport Bus Station or Wellington Rd to take some clearer shots of the bridge.
